Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Hinesville set records in May for jobs and employed residents.

In May, Hinesville saw the labor force, number of employed residents, and jobs all climb. Hinesville also saw a drop in the unemployment rate.

“Georgia’s employment numbers remain strong,” Butler said. “Across the state, the unemployment rate either remained steady or dropped.”

The number of employed increased by 142 residents. At a record 32,804 total employed residents, Hinesville is up by 898 for the year.

Hinesville gained 100 jobs for the month, with total jobs settling at 20,600 – an all-time high. This puts Hinesville up 200 jobs for the year.

The labor force also saw increases in May, up 76 for the month to 34,122 and remaining up 571 for the year.

The May unemployment rate was down .2 percent from the previous month, at 3.9 percent. The unemployment rate was 4.9 percent a year ago.

Initial claims for unemployment grew by about 19 percent for the month and are up by about 5 percent for the year.

The Hinesville metropolitan statistical areas covers Liberty and Long counties.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 180 active job postings in metro Hinesville for May.
